European Parliamentary Advisory Council (EPAC)

The Advisory Council, founded during the ESPA's annual congress on 2 June 2000, has the aim to promote the interests of European spas and health resorts on a European, national and regional level. It shall increase their publicity in the media, discuss spa-related topics in the parliaments and present their matters of interest to the respective governments, thus increasing the public awareness for spas and health resorts. The ESPA and its member associations will support the parliamentarians with the necessary information.

Apart from that the Advisory Council shall help to intensify communication between the parliamentarians on different scales and beyond the European Union in order to help those countries applying for membership to integrate themselves in the EU.

On 29 November 2000 the EPAC members came to a first meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels with the aim of defining the concrete objectives of the newly founded council and also to develop a relevant activity plan (press activities, events, etc.) in order to realise the objectives established. At first, the exchange of experiences and information shall be promoted on an international scale, supported by the responsible national parliaments. In a second step this information shall be included in a database.
In spring 2001 the advisory council has sent an introductory letter to the national parliaments in order to ask for support.
